Integrated Assessment:
This Bachelor of Design and Applied Arts recognises the importance of integrating learning and assessment. Throughout the qualification, constant and continuous formative assessment occurs via the various modules learners are required to undertake. This ensures that, throughout the duration of their qualification, learners receive valuable feedback on their academic development regarding the attainment of specific learning outcomes.
The course is organised into a theoretical class work component, and a practical studio component. Studio work “applies” the theoretical and heuristics of lectures. Studio work provides opportunities for students to work on practical products and problems and to apply what they learned in the lecturing sessions.
Assessment methods include almost all the available methods, including the creation of designed visual snippets as parts of products. Although the primary assessment concerns the design of a product or artefact, students also submit written assignments consisting of various formats, ranging from multiple-choice, paragraph type answers to essay type assignments. Students build their portfolios, while workplace assessment is done in the internship elective. Peer group evaluation is typically a component for product development assessment.
