Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 1:
All start-of-shift and end-of-shift procedures are carried out correctly.
The winding operations are performed in accordance with the signals and carried out smoothly and without shocks.
Brake testing, conveyance changes, materials slinging and clutching operations (where applicable) are carried out according to legal requirements and site-specific procedures.
Positions of the conveyances are verified using depth indicators.
All required operational information is recorded as required.
All work-related hazards are identified and measures are taken to eliminate, control and minimise risks related to safety and health.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 2:
The purpose of and the key issues related to all the activities recorded in the winding records are described and explained.
Activities related to emergency and out-of the-ordinary situations are described and explained.
An understanding of the differences between operating a winder in vertical and incline shafts is demonstrated.
The purpose and process of taking new drum marks is described, explained and demonstrated.
Typical work-related hazards and the measures to eliminate, control and minimise them, especially those related to health and safety, are described and explained.

Integrated Assessment:
Integrated Formative Assessment:
Skills development providers will use the curriculum to guide them on the stipulated internal assessment criteria and weighting. They will also apply the scope of practical skills and applied knowledge as stipulated by the internal assessment criteria. This formative assessment leads to entrance into the integrated external summative assessment.

Integrated Summative Assessment:
An external integrated summative assessment, conducted through the relevant Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) Assessment Quality partner is required for the issuing of this qualification. The external integrated summative assessment will focus on the Exit Level Outcomes and Associated Assessment Criteria. The external assessment will be conducted by means of an on-the-job observation by a registered assessor and an assessment of understanding of various winding operations by a panel of at most 3 persons of which one must be a registered assessor.
