Integrated Assessment:
Formative Assessment:
Formative assessment will take place during the proposal stage, the laboratory stages (trials and implementation of experimental design) and at different stages of preparing and writing the thesis. Supervisors will have regular scheduled meetings with learners to discuss progress and to provide feedback on written submissions. The purpose of formative assessment is to provide guidance on mastery of critical thinking skills, research skills, advanced academic and digital literacy skills, data analysis and interpretation.
Summative Assessment:
Three reputable and appropriately qualified external examiners who are also external to the institution are appointed by the institution to assess the thesis. One of these external examiners will be an international expert in the field of study. All examiner reports will be submitted to the Faculty Research Committee and subsequently the Higher Degrees Committee for approval. Once approved by these committees the reports are sent to Senate for ratification. In order for the learner to graduate, proof of a published article in a peer reviewed accredited journal is required.
