Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 1:
Knowledge and understanding of the different levels of community-based interactions and interventions in community health programmes is demonstrated.
The different theories and models of health promotion are interpreted and analysed.
Knowledge of theories and models to an existing community health problem is applied when working with communities.
The various risk factors existing in community health practices are critically analysed with a view to solving the related community health problems.
Epidemiological methods are used to determine the causes and sources of outbreaks of diseases.
Key sources of data are identified and epidemiological measures are used and appropriate inferences are drawn to assess the health status and trends of populations.
The interventions for community health promotion and disease prevention is planned, developed, implemented, and evaluated.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 2:
Theories of policymaking are understood and specialist knowledge of the policy process is applied to public health problems.
Issues in contemporary South African health policy and the various stakeholders and partnerships formed in the policy process are analysed and critiqued.
The role of evidence and advocacy in policy agenda setting is examined.
A range of advocacy strategies including media advocacy and community empowerment strategies for the development and implementation of policy is understood.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 3:
The relationships among leadership, power, ethics and values at the professional level of public health leadership are analysed and explained.
The implications of the principles of access and equity are identified in terms of the practical implementation of policies.
Strategies for effective and ethical discharge of public health practice following the principles of access, equity and distributive justice are applied.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 4:
A research problem is identified together with a rationale for it is researched.
Research design and methods, including ethical considerations are developed and justified.
The results of data collected from research are analysed taking into consideration prior evidence and theory.
Academic conventions including grammar/spelling, paragraph and sentence construction, logic, coherence, clarity and appropriate referencing are used in a report on the research.
Results are integrated into the context of previous studies/theory.
The limitations of the study, with recommendations for future are researched.
The findings are reported on orally and in writing.

Integrated Assessment:
The assessment processes for the Master of Public Health (MPH) qualification uses both formative and summative assessments for assessing each of the Exit Level Outcomes above.

Assessment practices for the MPH qualification are open, transparent, fair, valid, and reliable and will ensure that no learner is disadvantaged in any way whatsoever, so that an integrated approach to assessment is incorporated into the qualification.

Learning, teaching and assessment of the MPH qualification are inextricably interwoven. Whenever possible, the assessment of knowledge, skills, attitudes and values shown in the qualification are integrated with other aspects of public health and will be applied in practical contexts by means of applicable case studies. A variety of assessment methods and tools will be utilised in the assessment practice. Where it is not possible to assess the learner in real life situations, simulations, role-plays and other similar techniques within the parameters of the MPH framework will be used.

In addition, continuous assessment will be done through the following channels:
Portfolios of evidence.
Case study simulations.
Workplace assessments and practical workbooks.
Written individual and group assignments.
Written tests.
Case studies and case presentations.
Peer group evaluation in group tasks.
Competency evaluations of research skills.
Face to face contact with the learners as well as on line forum.

Assessment procedures will ensure that all the outcomes are evaluated in an integrated manner.
