Learning progress will be communicated to peers in oral and written format. The students will demonstrate their ability to collect, synthesise and use information in a responsible and effective way. They will actively participate in practicals, where their theoretical knowledge will be tested in a technical environment. Competent use of computer technology will be shown in all aspects of information access, data management, and presentations. Various forms of assignments, tutorials, tests and reports will be used to direct the individual learning progress.
Integrated assessment
The university of Natal is currently reforming its assessment strategies to include the assessment of applied competence for each qualification. In the meantime, a combination of continuous assessment and traditional written examinations serve to assess the integration of all/most of the learning outcomes for each module in a qualification.
All students have to prepare two seminars and conduct a project. Seminars are used to access, synthesize and present information, while a project is designed to apply existing assessment criteria through testing students’ ability to use research techniques and theoretical backgrounds for resolving real problems. A written exam will add to the final evaluation.
