Integrated Assessment:
Given the wide range of outcomes listed above, it is not realistic to assess every one in a single integrated assessment process. However, the Simulated Office Project and the Research Report, do require the student to demonstrate an ability to combine many of the various aspects of knowledge and competence in a single exercise. The integrated assessment is thus a part of the assessment of these projects. Successful completion of the BSc (Property Development) qualification serves as a possible intermediate exit points for those learners not wishing to specialise in either quantity surveying or construction management.
The University of Natal is currently reforming its assessment strategies to include the assessment of applied competence for each qualification. In the meantime, a combination of continuous assessment and traditional written examinations serve to assess the integration of all/most of the learning outcomes for each module in a qualification.
