Integrated Assessment:
In order to achieve the aims as set out in 6 above, assessment is geared specifically to evaluating all skills, competencies and knowledge required. For a qualified filmmaker there is, in the final analyses, actually only one appropriate applicable assessment: Can the qualified learner apply the knowledge gained in the lectures to produce a successful motion picture?
A wide range of formative and summative assessment methods are utilised to this end which permit the learner to demonstrate applied competence at different levels and within the whole gamut of disciplines. These include:
Formative:
Class tests, assignments, essays, research projects.
Assessment of hands-on operational skill competencies through practical tests and practical evaluations.
Practical workshops.
Summative:
Evaluation of practical projects i.e. film and video productions.
Workshops are conducted for subjects such as Scriptwriting, Producing and Motion Picture Production. Work is evaluated, progress is continually monitored and feedback given so that assessment leads to growth and continued improvement.
Practical projects are formulated and structured in order to obtain a valid model of the learner’s overall competency within all the disciplines being assessed namely Scriptwriting, Producing, Directing, Cinematography, Sound, Editing, Film Theory and Criticism and Motion Picture Production. Each of these disciplines is evaluated by a team of experts and comprehensive feedback is given. In this way every aspect of the final outcome is assessed to determine whether the learner has achieved a level of compliance with the set training objectives at each assessment level.
