Integrated assessment:
The entire qualification is based on the assumption that assessment is ongoing. Learners are provided with the opportunity to display competence in the various components through a combination of theoretical examinations, project-based assignments and tasks, practical performance and testing of underpinning knowledge concepts.
Each academic grade is based on a variety of mid- and end-term examinations, together with assignments and a final examination. Many of the final examinations are based on external examinations and are completed at the internationally accepted standards set out by these organisations. Included in these are examinations from the Educational Institute of the American Hotel & Lodging Association, City & Guilds and ICDL.
Experiential Learning Experience is assessed on the basis of defined unit standard requirements for the sector, as set out by THETA. These assessments are performed by accredited assessors, and are performed in real-world situations whenever possible. Practical work assessments are also integrated with reports produced by the learners, together with assessment reports produced by operating department heads in the areas where learners are receiving practical instruction.
