1. Consistent and appropriate implementation of the principles of ethics and professional practice to the practice of Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing.
2. Consistent demonstration of effective communication skills within the multi-disciplinary team context and in the community.
3. Systematic and effective application of the principles of management within the Midwifery and Neonatal unit/department.
4. Successful planning and implementation of relevant educational programmes to the multi-disciplinary team, patients/clients, their families and the community.
5. Successful participation in planning and implementation community development programmes.
6. Successful and systematical completion of research projects relevant to the Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing.
7. Successful participation in maintenance of workplace stability by following South African Labour Law practices.

9. Consistent and accurate identification of patient`s needs/problems, critical analysis of data collected, formulation of appropriate nursing diagnosis and prioritisation of the patient suffering from high risk conditions in an obstetrical/neonatal unit.
10. Successful identification of syndromes resulting form genetic disorders.
11. Consistent planning, of appropriate pharmacological intervention in obstetrics and neonatology.
12. Effective participation in genetic counselling sessions and make prompt referral.

13. Act as the patients advocate in matters affecting maternal and neonate health. Act as a nurse consultant regarding matters concerning the planning and provision of care for high-risk obstetric patients and high-risk neonate.
14. Correct selection and utilization of life support equipment and technology.
15. Successful planning, implementation and evaluation of health programmes that effectively contribute to a reduction in the incidence of high risk conditions in obstetric and neonatology.
16. Provides evidence of active participation in the initiation and implementation of risk management programmes for midwifery and neonatal nursing.
17. Successful planning and implementation of obstetric and neonatal nursing interventions that are responsive to cultural, psychosocial and spiritual diversities.
18. Display evidence of active participation in the management of emergency situations in the midwifery and neonatal setting.
