PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
The qualifying learner achieving this unit standard in combination with context expertise standard(s) will be able to explain environmental health and community hygiene practices, treat contaminated water, identify water and sanitation related diseases and explain ways to prevent the transmission of these diseases. The learner will be able to explain the appropriate remedial action for each disease and demonstrate the oral rehydration process. This competence will enable the learner to promote health awareness in communities, which will contribute towards improved environmental health within a community and the preservation of environmental resources for future generations. Achieving this unit standard will provide foundational learning that will advance his / her own expertise and employability in the water and other related sectors.
