Conduct an environmental survey of a critical care unit to identify infection control hazards
Participate in the formulation of institutional policies to control infections
Review the efficacy of quality assurance programmes to control infection/s.

During placement in the critical care facility the learner should demonstrate the ability to:-

Perform a nursing assessment to diagnose the health needs of the critically ill patient
Utilise nursing knowledge to provide nursing care plans for critically ill patients
Review and evaluate interventions and make appropriate adaptations to critical care nursing plan
Evaluate the patients’ response to the critical care nursing care plans

Participate in the formulation of appropriate health education programmes for critical care patients and their families
Collaborate and participate in community outreach programmes for the prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases

Participate in the formulation and implementation of institutional policies promoting the safe use of mechanical/technical equipment in the provision of critical nursing care
