1. The learner will be able to:
Apply the principles of management within the primary clinical nursing unit to ensure a cost-effective and safe environment for the patient and staff
Formulate a disaster management plan for a primary clinical nursing unit
Conduct a disciplinary and/or a grievance hearing

2. The learner will be able to:
Identify primary clinical nursing and health problems on which research is needed
Initiate and design a research plan
Implement planned research activities
Disseminate results – written and verbal presentation
Interpret and facilitate utilisation of research-based information in own practice
Conduct clinical research based on the scientific principles
Critically analyse research results and implement appropriate nursing practice
Critically evaluate research articles

3. The learner will be able to:
Apply the PHC approach and principles in the provision and facilitation of nursing and health care
Formulate nursing care standards
Write a report on contemporary factors that influence health care delivery in the primary clinical nursing unit
Act as an agent for change in the delivery of health care

4. The learner will be able to:
Act as advocate in matters affecting health, illness and cultural diversity
Apply the principles of ethical decision making to solve ethical problems
Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team/relevant role players in the provision and facilitation of health and primary clinical nursing

2. The learner will be able to:
Conduct a health assessment and diagnosis of individuals, families, groups and communities in a variety of health settings, institutional and non-institutional, including:
– Epidemiological surveys
Formulate and implement health service policies
Collaborate with relevant role players in designing educational programmes to meet cultural, ethical and health needs

3. The learner will be able to:
Assess for/the legal requirements for consent for anaesthesia/interventions
Conduct a peri-operative assessment and identify problem and implement appropriate intervention.

4. The learner will be able to:
Conduct a comprehensive health assessment and diagnosis of individuals, groups and communities in a variety of setting in which nursing takes place including:
– Environmental survey
– Physical health status
Participate in the formulation of institutional policies to control infections.
Implement a promotive / preventive plan to address the health needs of the compromised patient
Participate in reviewing the effectiveness of quality assurance programmes to control infections.

1. The registered nurse should be able to provide first responder emergency health care by:-
Conducting a full health assessment of the client (including physical examination, clinical investigations, prescription of medication and/or scientifically based nursing interventions, documentation).

The registered nurse should be able to:-
Prescribe and dispense appropriate contraceptive methods
Screen clients for actual/potential reproductive health problems
Manage the syndromic approach to sexually transmitted infections
Recognise and refer clients with mental health emergencies to appropriate agencies.

2. The registered nurse should be able to:-
Utilise nursing knowledge specific to primary clinical nursing to provide nursing care plans for clients, families and communities

Critically analyse a community development project
Participate in Community Health Forums

Promote the rational safe and effective use of drugs when prescribing medication
Educate clients on the importance of medication compliance

Analyse epidemiological data, identify actual/potential problems and implement disease surveillance programmes
Implement preventive programmes for identified problems

Continuous assessment:
