FIRST YEAR:

Specific assessment criteria:

1. Relate learning gained form individual experience to knowledge encountered in an academic environment and vice versa
Relate learning from experience and academic contexts to different contexts using present and future scenarios
2. Apply the Ethos, Ethics and Ethical Codes of Nursing where relevant
Maintains Professionalism and the practice contained in the Nursing Act
3. Demonstrates the ability to understand the impact cultural diversities have on health
4. Knowledge of Principles of Professional practice as contained in the Nursing Act and Philosophy of Nursing
5. Define responsibility and professional relationships in respect of:
patients
co-workers
employer
SANC
Define accountability to whom and what
Legal and normal responsibility of employer and employee
6. Define dependant, inter dependant and independant functions of the nurse in relation to scope of practice
Use of cognitive psychomotive and interpersonal skills
7. Demonstrate knowledge of Health Education and teaching skills through the communication process

Critical cross-fields assessment criteria:

1. Solve problems by generating alternative strategies for dealing with those problems
2. Use appropriate referrals
Collaborate with patient, family and the multidisciplinary team to plan care
Show consideration of cultural diversities when communicating
Keep clear, concise, accurate records
3. Demonstrate the requisite study skills and learning strategies
Demonstrate the ability to correlate theoretical and practical knowledge
Development of self awareness
4. Accurate documentation and use of various tools in collecting data to assist in research
Ability to appropriately formulate a patient care plan
5. Use appropriate communication skills for patient at different cognitive physical levels
6. Relate physical, social psycho-social and spiritual needs of a patient and his/her family

SECOND YEAR:

Specific assessment criteria:

Use appropriate ethical code and principles so to act as an advocate and role model in health care settings

Build new skills on previous knowledge gained
Draw upon known information to deal with unknown health issues

Critical cross-field assessment criteria:

1. Assessing direct and indirect factors relevant to nursing within a given nursing care context
Solve health related problems by generating alternative strategies to deal with these problems at primary, secondary and tertiary levels of care
Identify health related problems
Use knowledge and experience in health education in order to assist with health problems at Community level
2. Show evidence of personal skills (tolerance, empathy, listening skills, etc. in group situations)
3. Recognise limitations and refer appropriately
4. Use scientific methods of investigations, testing and evaluation
Select appropriate health related technology to suit the needs of the individual
Show respect for and responsible attitude towards health science and technology

Integrated assessment:

Continuous assessment in the Clinical field, by Professional Registered Nurses and Clinical Teaching Department Staff
Formative assessments written examination 1st year and 2nd year.
Summative assessment written examination and OSCE at the end of 1st and 2nd year.
