Email is shorthand term meaning Electronic Mail. Email much the same as a letter, only that it is exchanged in a different way. Electronic mail (email) is the term given to an electronic message, usually a form of simple text message that a user types at a computer system and is transmitted over some form of computer network to another user, who can read it. Computers use the TCP/IP protocol suite to send email messages in the form of packets. Microsoft outlook allows one to send and receive emails.

This programme has been aligned to registered unit standards. You will be assessed against the outcomes of the unit standards by completing a knowledge assignment that covers the essential embedded knowledge stipulated in the unit standards. When you are assessed as competent against the unit standards, you will receive a certificate of competence and be awarded 4 credits towards a National Qualification.

The programme methodology includes facilitator presentations, readings, individual activities, group discussions, and skill application exercises.

Learners accessing this Unit Standard should be competent in Computer Literacy, Mathematical Literacy and Communications at NQF level 1 or equivalent.

PURPOSE

Purpose People credited with this unit standard can use keyboard techniques to key in alpha and numeric text, symbols, and special characters, using a standard alpha-numerical keyboard; identify and remedy technique errors; apply keyboard techniques and ergonomic practices to avoid overuse injuries; and produce sentences and paragraphs containing alpha and numeric text, symbols and special characters.
