The installation process for software depends on your operating system and the program you are installing. As a result of these many combinations, we have created the steps below as a general guideline. The following does not cover errors during the installation process, as they are too vast for one document.

  • 114047 LG 1.19 INSTALLATION IN ACCORDANCE WITH MANUFACTURER GUIDELINES & SPECIFICATIONS

When you install system and application software, you need to make sure that your installation takes the publisher’s guidelines and specifications into account. A software publisher is a company that publishes software from software developer and gets it ready to the distributer. The distributer is the company that arranges to get the published software to shops so that people can by copies of it.

The installation process is never complete without the installer punching the product key. The purpose of a product key is to prevent software piracy. Piracy, in this context, means using copies of software illegally.

Once the product key has been entered the installer must wait for the software installation process to finish. This can take quite a lot of time, depending on the software you are installing and the hardware specifications of the computer. Once the software has finished installing, the computer will restart. When it restarts, the operating system starts up if the installation was successful.

If you can see the operating system running on the computer, the installation was successful. This is because the operating system is the basis for all other software functions on the computer. So, if the operating system runs smoothly, you know that the software has been installed in accordance with the publisher’s specifications and guidelines

If the system software has not been installed according to the publisher’s guidelines and specifications, and the installation is unsuccessful many things might happen. For example you may not be able to boot into the operating system.

  • 114047 LG 1.18 INTRODUCTION

A software generally refers to any type of executable code that can be launched in a computer system. It is designed to implement and complete specific functions that are required by the user in his activities. Some computer experts believe that software can be categorized as general application (can be installed and used by any organization) or customized (developed to cater to the specific needs of a particular group or enterprise).
    Materials Needed:

    – Computer
    – CD or DVD drive
    – Installation disc
    – Internet connection
    – Web browser

    Step 1

The first most important step in software installation is to verify that the target system meets the general hardware requirements of the application. Beginning the installation in a computer machine which does not possess the minimum requirements can lead to either an unsuccessful installation or failure of the program to run after installing it.

    Step 2

Since programs in general are written to be Operating System dependent, make sure that the version of the application you are installing corresponds to the Operating System platform running on your machine.

    Step 3

Aside from the general hardware requirements, some computer programs also have software requirements prior to installation. Double check if you need to update or upgrade your Operating System or if there is a need to download other tools or utilities.

    Step 4

Once all the initial requirements have been met, make sure that there are no unnecessary programs running before beginning the installation procedure. In some instances, applications may require that the antivirus programs be disabled. Make sure that you are installing a legitimate application before disabling your protection software.

    Step 5

Software installation can be done either from the Internet (skip to step 8) or from an installation disc provided by the software manufacturer. To install from the disc, simply open the CD or DVD drive and insert the installer.

    Step 6

A setup wizard window should be launched. In case there is none, open the Explorer and navigate to the optical drive. Double click on either the Autorun or Setup file.

    Step 7

Once the wizard is running, simply follow the prompts until the installation process is completed. For novice users, accept the default values to minimize potential problems during the procedure. Jump to step 10.

    Step 8

For installation from the Web, launch your browser application and download the setup file to your hard drive.

    Step 9

After completion of the downloading process, run the setup program to execute the setup wizard that will handle the automatic installation of the software. Do step 7.

    Step 10

After the installation procedure has been completed and the setup wizard has terminated, reboot your machine before launching the newly installed software.

  • 114047 LG 1.17 SESSION 2: PLAN THE INSTALLATION OF SYSTEM SOFTWARE

On completion of this section you will be able to install a multi-user networked operating system.

    1. The installation procedure follows the manufacturer`s guidelines.
    2. The installation ensures that the system software operates according to manufacturer`s specifications.
    3. The installation ensures that the system software operates according to the installation specification.
    4. The installation ensures that the pre-installation environment is restored in the event of an unsuccessful installation.
  • 114047 LG 1.16 DETERMINING THE REVIEW PROCEDURE

The plan must adopt a review procedure which ensures that the final outcome meets user requirements according to service level agreements. A set of review criterion must be identified and adopted. These criterions must be used as benchmarks when determining is the installation achieved user requirements.

Given that the starting point of all requirements gathering is really a verbal interchange between the IT technician and client, good communication is crucial. Project managers must set the correct tone from the start of the project during the definition or exploratory phase. As a project manager, you must understand that user requirements must be captured correctly, and they have to be realistic and achievable.

One of the first things that must happen during this definition phase is the requirements-gathering meeting. This meeting usually includes representatives of all affected staff and could include the following members:

    Project/development manager

The project/development manager should open up the meeting and act as the meeting facilitator. The relationship between the client and your team is formed during this meeting.

    Client managers

Client managers are the functional managers working in the specific area seeking the solution; they will have specific business needs of the system and would be best able to relay this information to the analyst.

    Users
Identified and knowledgeable users should attend this meeting to provide input about the project because they will be using the system regularly and will require different, more detailed functions from those at the management level.

    IT department

It is crucial that members of the infrastructure, networking, security and technology groups also attend in order to help determine any system requirements that must be met and to ensure the necessary hardware is available and capable of running the solution.
