PURPOSE OF SayPro SAQA Course 229998 Explain and perform fall arrest techniques when working at height NQF Level 01 Credits 02

Learners wishing to acquire the competencies in this standard will be, people working at heights where there is a risk of injury from a fall. Learners will be involved in performing tasks at peak. Qualifying learners can follow fall arrest principles to perform work at peak safely, under the supervision of a qualified supervisor.

The qualifying learner is capable of the following:
Explaining the use and limitations of a limited range of fall arrest equipment and fall arrest plan.
Inspecting, assembling, and storing fall arrest equipment.
    Selecting suitable anchor points.
Using fall arrest systems with a double lanyard.
I am using pre-installed vertical and horizontal lifelines.

For a successful learner of this standard to be able to function in a rope access operation, the learner must:
Be medically fit and in possession of a medical certificate, declaring the learner free from a condition that may prevent the learner from working safely as specified in the range statement. (An example of the content of the medical certificate is available in SABS 0333:2 Annex A).

LEARNING IS ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence in the:
Communication at ABET Level 3 or equivalent.
Mathematical Literacy at ABET Level 3 or equivalent.

Learners wishing to acquire the competencies in this standard will be people responsible for the safety and protection of people working at heights where there is a risk of injury from a fall. The learner will be responsible for the safety of others performing tasks at peak. Qualifying learners can develop fall protection plans for people working at height, required by the Occupational Health and safety act (Act 85 of 1993).

The qualifying learner is capable of:
Performing a risk assessment of the worksite where work is to be done at height.
Demonstrating knowledge of fall arrest rescue equipment and advanced fall arrest rescue.
Developing a fall protection plan and fall arrest plan.
I am managing the safety of personnel working at heights.

For a successful learner of this standard to be able to function in a rope access operation, the learner must:
Be medically fit and possess a medical certificate, declaring him/her free from a condition that may prevent him/her from working safely as specified in the range statement. (An example of the content of the medical certificate is available in SABS 0333:2 Annex A.)
    Know suspension trauma.
