The student shall be familiar with and competent in probability and statistical inference and shall possess skills in data analysis and computing. Assessment is made through the medium of tests, assignments, projects and exams.
Integrated assessment appropriately incorporated to ensure that the purpose of the qualification is achieved:
The University of Natal is currently reforming its assessment strategies to include the assessment of applied competence for each qualification. In the meantime, a combination of continuous assessment and traditional written examinations serve to assess the integration of all/most of the learning outcomes for each module in a qualification.
At the honours level an applied project which requires the student to draw upon the understanding and skills acquired during the programme in order to:
Recognise the scope of a real-life problem in which Statistics is applicable
Analyse the problem statistically and interpret the results
Draw meaningful conclusions
Present the findings both orally and as a written report
