Integrated assessment
Because assessment practices must be open, transparent, fair, valid, reliable and ensure that no learner is disadvantaged in any way whatsoever, an integrated assessment approach is incorporated into the qualification.Integrated assessment at the level of qualification provides an opportunity for learners to show that they are able to integrate concepts, ideas and actions across unit standards to achieve competence that is grounded and coherent in relation to the purpose of the qualification.
In particular assessors should check for:
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding
Demonstrated ability to make decisions about practice and to act accordingly
Demonstrate ability to learn from our actions and to shape our performance
Formative assessment are calculated using DP (duly performed) tests and assignments and projects averaging 40%. In the circumstances of a learner obtaining a DP mark of below 40% the learners DP is denied, thus the student will not be able to qualify to write the final examinations or supplementary examination and is to repeat the subject in the following academic year. If the lecturer wishes to assess the learner who did not obtain their DP he/she can do so by giving the learner an oral or written assignment.Summative assessment is based on a calculation of the formative assessment as well as final exams.
