1. Learners will demonstrate their ability and proficiency in each of the eight learning outcomes. These are tested by means of a comprehensive dissertation, which may be supplemented by an oral presentation of their research findings, and reports, by the supervisor(s).
2. All components are second-examined with external examination for the dissertation.
Integrated assessment:
The university of Natal is currently reforming its assessment strategies to include the assessment of applied competence for each qualification. In the meantime, a combination of continuous assessment and traditional written examinations serve to assess the integration of all/most of the learning outcomes for each module in a qualification.
Assessment takes place through the dissertation, in which the learner is expected to present integrated research findings, interpreted and linked to the existing literature across the entire area of the specific investigation.
