Integrated Assessment

Assessment of competence and learning outcomes realisation will be based on a combination of:

Tests.
Project preparation and presentation.
Evaluation of class participation and leadership.
End of year examinations.
Final year examinations and major written project covering all aspects of programme content.
Oral assessment during the seminar presentations.
Portfolios of practical experience assignments completed.

Each term of the (three year) programme consists of ongoing assessments in the form of tests, individual and team projects (and their presentation) and class participation. These assessments constitute the due performance of the student over the modules in question. At the end of each module offered by the college, students sit for examination.

In the final year, over and above the tests and class participation students undertake a major strategy project which integrates all the work done in the programme three years to demonstrate their ability to apply the knowledge, skills and appreciation acquired

Learners have to go through an internship programme that will stretch to the minimum of three months (60 working days) of practical work in any institution or organisation of a well-marked profile of management success and excellent performance. The internship will comprise of:

A case study report. Candidates will have to study the ideal organisation of their choice and submit a (5000-word) case study report. The case study should among other things cover the nature, structure, merits, failures, financial position and the management strategy of that organisation. This report should be submitted two weeks before the actual internship commences.

A copy of a detailed contract entered into by the organisation and the student. The contract should clearly spell out what duties will be performed and tasks executed by the candidate. It is advisable that the duties to be performed relate to management and leadership roles, with as minimal administrative duties as possible. The contract entered into between the student and the organisation of employment should be directly linked to the area of specialisation in the studies of the student.

A shadowing report. Candidates will have to shadow one of the most senior managers in the organisation for 2 weeks (10) days. They will have to keep a diary of all activities and duties performed each day. A (5000 word) report consisting of the actual diary with the analysis and critique of activities and duties performed and the nature/quality of decisions made should be submitted.

A (5000 words) post internship report that reflects a candidate`s experiences with the organisation should also be submitted. This report will consist of the evaluation of policies and procedures of the organisation, the effectiveness of the organisation and the strengths and weaknesses of the management of the organisation in question.

A (2000 word) feedback report submitted to the organisation by the student should also be submitted to the module co-ordinator. This report should be a detailed consolidation of observed merits and areas that need improvement. Recommendations on areas that need improvement should be clearly articulated.

A confidential evaluation report written to the module co-ordinator by the immediate supervisor of the student manager. This evaluation report should be as detailed and frank as possible. It should not be handed to the student manager, but sent directly to the module co-ordinator, at the end of the internship. It should also spell out clearly the areas of improvement that a student should observe.

Finally a student should write a (5000 words) assignment on how their experiences during the internship will translate to improvements in the management practice of their own organisations.
