A comprehensive range of assessment criteria will be used to determine learner achievement. The overall criteria will include, but will not be confined to:
1. Situate texts, events and issues within their historical, social and cultural context
2. Express informed opinions about ideological issues (socio-cultural and political realities e.g. racism, genderism, nationalism) relevant to the South African situation.
3. Debate literary, cultural, linguistic, historical, social, health and environmental issues of national and international relevance.
4. Integrate theory and practice and apply advanced skills of analysis, synthesis and evaluation in projects in the chosen discipline.
5. Conduct discipline specific communicative activities (e.g. diagnostic interviews with clients and writing essays in literary interpretation).
6. Plan, outline and implement research programmes and projects.
7. Demonstrate mastery of subject bibliographies.
Integrated assessment
Integrated assessment strategies comprising a range of formative and summative methods are used. Evidence that learners have achieved the purpose of the qualification is based on their ability to:
Undertake and complete research projects and assignments
Write essays
Compile personal journals
Compile portfolios
Give presentations of case studies/reports in wards
Participate in seminars and debates
Practise peer evaluation
Conduct interviews
Complete practical work
Complete oral and written examinations where applicable
